Setting the scene for 1 Corinthians 12:9 is found in 1 Corinthians 12:7 and the infamous thorn in Paul’s side. I am thankful Paul sets the fact that we are all human and we are all on the same level playing field. Something I talk about in my first book, Time To Really Live Free.
As Paul moves forward in his account he lets the Corinthians know human weakness and God’s power are a good combination. Here is 2 Corinthians 12:9 with added understanding:
And he said to me, To be possessed of unfailing strength you have because of my shared benefit of my leaning towards you; for having the ability to perform coming from the miraculous might and strength in want of strength is finishing the necessary process where you go from glory to glory. Most gladly therefore rather (even more than) will I walk with my head held high in my want of strength, for the purpose I abide in Christ on me having the ability to perform coming from the miraculous might and strength of the Christ. 2 Corinthians 12:9
I abide in Christ as he abides in me. I speak many times about this in my second book, The Door Is Open. Our perspective shifts when we better understand what it being said. It should bring more and more freedom…not less.
May God’s freedom in this time of grace overwhelm you today, Darlene
