In my book, The Door Is Open, I discuss several signs of antichrist or anti-messiah behaviors, beginning with the scripture from Matthew 23:4-38 in The Message translation. Let’s delve into the third sign, as described in verses 8-10 of Matthew 23:

““Don’t let people do that to you, put you on a pedestal like that. You all have a single Teacher, and you are all classmates. Don’t set people up as experts over your life, letting them tell you what to do. Save that authority for God; let him tell you what to do. No one else should carry the title of ‘Father’; you have only one Father, and he’s in heaven. And don’t let people maneuver you into taking charge of them. There is only one Life-Leader for you and them—Christ.””

Remember, these are Jesus’s words from when He walked the earth, highlighting the opposition to the true gospel that I discuss extensively in my second book. Today, I observe this same behavior among many leaders within the church, which represents the essence of what is antichrist or anti-Messiah behavior.

Jesus was not gentle with the religious elite of His time; He spoke the truth to awaken people. He wanted everyone to recognize who He truly was, but for the religious leaders, it was particularly hard to accept that they needed a savior. Today, many leaders within the church love the pedestal but it is such a long way to the ground once up there.  Many leaders say it is people that put them there, which is true.  Yet, there is also truth in the fact that many want to be there and actually help that along in what they do and say.

One of the truths I believe every follower of Christ needs to remember is that “Jesus leveled the playing ground”.  We are all but sinners saved by grace no matter what “title” you have.

I invite you to reflect on each of these points with God, and perhaps consider reading The Door Is Open to fully grasp this concept, enabling you to live freely in God’s grace, love and freedom right now.
